Ingalena’s Inspiration

Struggling to stay motivated in these dark winter days? We thought we'd ask Ingalena Heuck for her favourite running tips to get you inspired...

ingalena,

Follow a few simple steps…
Always focus on your goal.
Make sure those goals are realistic. Be consistent with your training, diet and recovery – it will make you feel better. A healthy diet is important – especially after pushing your body. Even if training is hard – it will all be worth it once you’ve reached the finish line.

Change things up…
I like a bit of variation in training and I regularly run in the hills. In winter, I also train with spikes on grass or forest tracks. For a change I also like swimming and training on the bike.

Have no fear…
I wouldn’t be able to put in a good performance if I was afraid of training! I have respect for long interval sessions but I also look forward to them.

Even 20 minutes of training is better than nothing…
Warm up with an easy run for 10min, then push your speed almost to the maximum for 30 seconds. Repeat this five times with 30 seconds of easy running in between. At the end, cool down with an easy 4min run. Short but sweet.

You don’t always have to run against the clock…
Have fun and leave your watch at home from time to time!

Get your head straight…
Before the race, I go through the course in my head, listen to good music and try to focus on myself — I’m doing this because I want it!!
